My Health Journey

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

It's a new year and what better time to start my health journey!

I'm getting that much older and my once-fast metabolism is slowing down and I've been finding that the foods I used to consume are not as good to me. It didn't help that my old job was working from home on my laptop where food was constantly at my fingertips. I didn't really exercise and I found myself overeating a lot - out of boredom or just because it was too good to stop.

I joined 'My Fitness Pal' which helps you manage what foods you eat and keeps you disciplined in what foods are higher in calories than others. It just makes you aware of what you're putting into your body. NB: I'm not dieting, I'm just watching my food intake and I still eat the treats I used to, just not as excessively. To date I have lost 2kgs in 2 weeks just by keeping to my calorie goal and managing what I'm eating, along with regular exercise.

Just recently, I also got a Fitbit Flex 2 which has been helping me count my steps and showing the calories I've burned when I exercise. It's been super great as it's waterproof so I can swim with it and if I wear it to bed I can count the calories I'm losing as I sleep. You can also set an alarm that vibrates when it's time to wake up as well as notifying you of an incoming call, so I've literally got it plastered to my wrist 24/7 (unless it's on charge).  I received a silver bracelet c/o of Fitbit that I can swap out my device from the normal wristband, if I'm wanting to wear a more dressy look.

Will definitely be sharing with you more about my healthy journey in blog posts to come!
