Adventuring South

Monday, July 31, 2017

This weekend just been, I went down to the beautiful South Island to stay with my bestie, Alana, for a few days and it was magical. I haven’t seen her in 9 months but it felt like no time had passed. On the Friday I dropped her off at work and went to Christchurch central to look around as it was my first time visiting. I may have got lost once or twice and wasn’t used to all the one way streets but praise the good lord for GPS on my phone. I went for a walk around the township and stopped at two cafes on my visit there. The first one was Hello Sunday. My favourite thing about this visit was sitting in the café, drinking my coffee while watching snow fall outside. I also got to catch up with Sophie, an old friend from Hamilton while I was down and she took me to another cute café called Gentle Giant.
Lake Tekapo

The next day we ventured to Lake Tekapo through this little cute town of Geraldine, where we stopped to have a coffee at The Running Duck. The weather was an absolute stunner and the mountains, snow and scenery were indescribable. While we were in Tekapo, we checked out the Church of the Good Shepherd, played in the snow, ate fries at a local diner and went to Tekapo Spings. Honestly if you ever find yourself there, I most definitely recommend going for a nice soak in the hot pools with snow and mountains surrounding – it is a blimmin' sight for sore eyes.

My last day, we decided to head to Akaroa, a little French settlement by the bay. It reminded me a lot of Russell in the North Island. Again, the sun was shining and we got to see epic views, went to the lighthouse and walked around the township. I even dabbled (spent all my money) buying crystals, and I also got some small gifts for a couple of my friends back home.

Seriously the best weekend and exactly what I needed.
