The Heart Chain

Monday, July 03, 2017

Hi all,

As most of you know, following my journey whether it be through this blog, Instagram, Facebook; you may know that I have been quite open about issues surrounding mental health. You can also view my post here, on ways I've found helpful myself, when dealing with anxiety and depression.

So with that being said, I just wanted to share with y'all a side project that I have been working on over the last couple of months. The Heart Chain is a creative space for people to share written, visual and audible expression surrounding mental health issues. I wanted to create a platform where people can be raw and vulnerable and share their experiences to help better others and help them relate or understand situations that people go through on a day-to-day basis.

It's a place to let out your inner most thoughts and hopefully reward yourself with feeling at peace, having that weight lifted off your shoulders and helping our community to be educated and informed about mental illness.

The term mental illness and anything under that umbrella still suffers from stigma and mostly unintentional ignorance. In New Zealand, we have the highest rates of youth suicide in the OECD countries and around 500 per year die by suicide. Every one suicide effects around 60 people, so 30,000 individuals a year are effected in some way or another; whether it be sleeping issues, needing therapy support or even having thoughts of suicide themselves etc.

I have a huge passion for people to use their situations that they're challenged with in life, and create something beautiful from it. This is The Heart Chain; a supportive community of like-minded people sharing their art, their struggles, their stories.

Check out the website, as well as Instagram and Facebook and I totally encourage you to have a read of the articles on the website - I may or may not have a string of articles on there too.
